"A well-stocked, well-staffed library is like a gardener who plants books, knowledge, and dreams and grows readers, learners, and do-ers."

The Calhoun School library provides a variety of learning opportunities for both large and small groups as well as individuals with a focus on academics and content, information literacy, and the learner. In addition to classroom visits with collaborating teachers, the school library also serves as a place for students to do independent work, use computers, equipment and research materials; to host special events.

The school library media center program is a collaborative venture in which school library media specialists, teachers, and administrators work together to provide opportunities for the social, cultural, and educational growth of students. Activities that are part of the school library media program can take place in the school library media center, the laboratory classroom, through the school, and via the school library's online resources.

The Calhoun School Library Rules

You must have a pass to use the library during class hours.

The first Rule in the library is RESPECT

 Respect the books

 Respect the faculty

  Respect each other.

Blatant disrespect will result in expulsion from the library

and, in some cases, a call to your parents and/or an office referral.

   Rules of Behavior:

Gum is not allowed in the library: Gum is a book– and rug-ruining substance and I keep finding it stuck in inappropriate places. Spit it out upon entering the library.  (I do not buy the “I swallowed it” line. )

Drinks and food are not allowed in the stacks or the computer lab areas: Place your drinks on the drink cart next to the circulation desk. You may retrieve them when you exit the library.

Keep it to a dull roar: While we don’t expect you to whisper, we do expect you to be considerate of others;  maintain a low conversational tone of voice while in the library.

Clean up after yourself and push in your chairs: Quality work is difficult to accomplish in a junky work space. Make sure the library looks as good when you leave as it did when you came in.

Do not re-shelve the books: In order to ensure that everyone can find the books they need, please place  any books you remove onto the carts at the front of  the library so they can be reshelved properly.

 Computer use:

You must have your school log id to use the computers. No exceptions.

During school hours, computers are for academic purposes ONLY. Do not use class time to check your personal email or play video games or you will be asked to leave the computer lab.

Do not tamper with the computer settings.  Doing so will result in loss of privileges.

Note: Teachers please assist in helping to make sure library rules are being followed when you accompany your stutdents to the library. Thanks in advance!
